YOASOBI ASIA TOUR 2024-2025 "Cho-Reality | cho-genjitsu" 2DAYS Live Report in Korea
YOASOBI, a "unit that turns novels into music" consisting of composer Ayase and vocalist ikura, will celebrate their 5th anniversary in 2024. The tour will start in South Korea, where they will perform 14 shows in 7 cities, making it the largest tour by a Japanese artist. The opening Korean leg of the tour was held at the INSPIRE ARENA in Incheon from December 7 to 8. YOASOBI arrived in Korea more than a week prior to his first solo performance in Korea in about a year. YOASOBI performed at the "Melon Music Awards" hosted by Melon, one of the largest music distribution services in Korea, and on "THE SHOW", a music program on SBS M, a cable TV station in Korea. In addition, they have been raising the expectations of local fans with their energetic activities, including a pop-up shop in collaboration with the select store HEIGHTS. The curtain rose on the YOASOBI ASIA TOUR 2024-2025 "Cho-genjitsu" as 13,000 fans packed the INSPIRE ARENA each day in the bitterly cold sub-zero temperatures.
Inheriting the concept of a domestic dome concert, this tour began with a video image of a giant monster invading the stage from behind LEDs, followed by Ayase and ikura's appearance on stage. The introduction of "Seventeen" lifted the audience's voltage, followed by "Blessing" and "Undead," popular anime theme songs, which combined with the "surreality" of the performance, sent the audience into a frenzy. After the MC, who spoke fluent Korean, they performed "Halcyon," "Mister" ("I love you" on the second day), and "Just a little more. After expressing his gratitude to the audience with a letter Ayase prepared, the audience was captivated by a group of medium-tempo songs, "Maybe," "New me," "Monotone," and "Gentle Comet," each with their own deep worldviews.
This performance will feature guest artists for the first time at YOASOBI's one-man live show. The first day featured NewJeans, a five-member girl group, and the second day featured AKMU, a Korean brother-sister pop duo, both of whom have performed with YOASOBI and have a close friendship with each other. The venue was filled with excitement at the collaboration between J-pop and K-pop, two artists representing the music scene that now transcends national borders and attracts worldwide attention.
After a friendly photo shoot and seeing off the guests, INSPIRE ARENA once again entered the world of "surreality. The band, with new support members, grooved strongly to "Kaibutsu", "Yusha", and "Ano Yume wo Nasotte". The following song, "Idol," was released last year and will continue to dominate the music charts in 2024, showing its overwhelming presence. The live reached its climax when ikura wrote a letter to the Korean fans who were cheering enthusiastically. The Japanese chorus of "Gunsei" has already become a tradition at YOASOBI concerts overseas. The 17-song show ended with a breathless pace.
For the encore, ikura, playing a pure white guitar, performed "Stand on the Stage" with its pure charm, and closed with "Running into the Night," one of their most popular songs that has never been pushed to the limit. The success of the concert, which lasted less than two hours and seemed to condense five years of fulfillment, was reflected in the satisfied expressions on the faces of the audience as they left the venue.
YOASOBI will continue this tour until the end of February next year in Indonesia, and in June will make its long-awaited first appearance at a European festival. From July to November, YOASOBI will embark on its first concert tour of 40 concerts in 14 prefectures in Japan. Even after their 5th anniversary, one cannot take one's eyes off their future as they continue to greedily deliver their music to all music fans, from Japan to the world.
