Singer-songwriter Hal Igarashi's new single "Hotaru" was released today.
Hal Igarashi is a musician with a unique background as a "former police officer. He has been playing in a band since he was a high school student, and started his career as a solo artist when the band broke up and he began to learn DTM. His motivation for writing songs came from "a desire to vent out the depressing feelings in my life. He has released many songs filled with his true feelings that seem to speak for and shout out the frustrations and anxieties of people in their daily lives, and has gained the sympathy of many listeners of all ages. He writes lyrics, composes music, arranges music, sings, illustrates, edits videos, and produces music videos. Even after becoming a police officer, he could not give up on his music career and decided to pursue it. On January 31, 2024, his song "Mendozai no Uta" was released digitally and charted on Spotify Japan's Fastest Rising Chart and Japan's Viral Top 50. The same year, "Slightly" was released on March 1, 2024, and charted not only on Spotify's Rapid Rise Chart and Japan's Viral Top 50, but also on LINE MUSIC's Real Time Ranking, and debuted at the top spot on Billboard Japan Heatseekers Songs, where it spent three consecutive weeks at No. 1 for three weeks in a row.
New single "Hotaru" is a "summer song" released after 3 months since the last single "Laughing Habit". Haru Igarashi herself describes the song as follows"This is a song about someone who wants to be close to you, even though he knows it won't come true. You feel ridiculous, but you blame summer and play yourself as convenient. The heat on your skin, the sweat, the timing of the kiss, you know it's all a mistake, but you still want it. I wrote a song about such a summer night."He says.
The cover photo of the album was also created by Hal Igarashi based on the world view of the song. Check out the sad lyrics such as "I wanted to hug you, so I hugged you first" and "I'm like a firefly, the light that only comes on at night".
