■STORY
Park Hidemi dreams of becoming a rapper, Yaguchi Mireukomi is sociable but has family problems, and Iwakuma Mako has a tongue for comic books. 3 high school students begin "forbidden extracurricular activities" in a town with an uncertain future, and their fates intersect. Aiming to get rich quick, this unconventional coming-of-age drama begins on a rooftop.

Somewhere in the future, they are looking forward to the future, but first, how to overcome what is in front of them - how to overcome what is in front of them. Such earnestness builds up as the three people make their daily choices. Along with an exhilarating rhythm, the content and time, which can only be depicted in a film, resonate in a heavy yet lighthearted way.

■STORY
Twenty-nine-year-old Rona, a biology student in London, returns to her hometown in the Orkney Islands for the first time in ten years. She tries to face her past and live sober, but her memories and wounds with her lover shake her up. This is a story of rebirth and reclaiming "me" in the harsh natural environment.

We break down, face it, and start over again. In this repetition, the weight of time gradually regains its own contours. Saoirse Ronan's appearance as Rona, who quietly embodies every color and every change while slowly adjusting herself to it, leaves a strong impression on us.

Director: India Donaldson
Cast: Lily Collias, James Legros, Danny McCarthy and others

■STORY
Sam, a 17-year-old girl, goes camping for three days in the Catskills with her father Chris and his old friend Matt. As Sam witnesses the "imperfections of adulthood," the relationship she had believed in slowly begins to falter.

There was one moment that stuck in my mind, "I've felt that somewhere before." The detailed facial expressions shown by Lily Collias, who played the young girl Sam, and the richness of director India Donaldson's perspective in capturing them. This is a film of a new generation that simultaneously renews subtlety and strength, capturing insensitive adults feigning innocence with a quiet gaze and dignified demeanor.

Director: Kota Yoshida
Based on a book by Asako Yuzuki, "That Girl at the Last Station" (Bunshun Bunko)
Cast: Ami Toma, Sena Nakajima, Hironoji Hirasawa, Kotona Minami, Taisuke Niihara, Sakurako Konishi, Asumi Nomura, etc.

■STORY
Entrance ceremony at a private girls' high school. Kiyoko and Natsuko, both internal students, meet Shuri, an external student in blue. Kiyoko is strongly attracted to Shuri, who grew up abroad and has a father who is a famous photographer, and they grow closer, but their relationship begins to waver when they find her diary. This coming-of-age ensemble drama depicts the subtleties of the adolescent mind.

A tingling mixture of bitterness and preciousness that I felt when I read the original. This feeling pervades every corner of the film and spreads slowly. The wavering of Kiyoko, played by Ami Toma, and the uncomfortable feeling of Shuri, embodied by Sena Nakajima, mix with the air that hangs over the film, leaving an unforgettable aftertaste that is unique to this time of year.

We introduced four recommended films released in January.
Next month, we will continue to bring you inspiring and interesting films. Please look forward to it!
