Taylor Swift's latest album "THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT" debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. album chart dated May 4. This is her 14th No. 1 album in the U.S., breaking Taylor's own record for the most No. 1 albums by a female artist and tying her with Jay-Z as the most No. 1 albums by a solo artist.

It also recorded approximately 2.61 million album equivalent sales in its first week of release in the United States. Of those sales, 1,914,000 came from traditional album sales (digital downloads, CDs, vinyl LPs, and cassette purchases), and an astounding 859,000 came from LP record sales. This result immediately made the album the top-selling album of the year in the U.S. for 2024. Additionally, all 31 tracks on the album, including the deluxe edition, were streamed to 891.34 million plays. This also broke the record for the most played album in its first week of release.

Taylor herself commented on social networking sites about album sales in the U.S. as follows.

“I am amazed. I am completely overwhelmed by your love for this album - 2.6 million copies, really? Thank you for listening, streaming, and welcoming "The Torchard Poets Department" into your lives. We are truly thrilled. I was so ready to get back on tour and now this, I can't wait for May 9."

It was also announced that "Fortnight feat. Post Malone" debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. singles chart on the same date. This is Taylor's 12th No. 1 single in the United States. It is also the 12th No. 1 single for Taylor in the U.S., with songs from this album dominating the U.S. singles chart from No. 1 to No. 14. This is Taylor's 12th No. 1 single in the U.S., and the first time in her career that a single from her previous album, "Midnights," has reached No. 1 in the U.S.

Taylor Swift will resume her "TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR" on May 9 in France.
