The Who's legendary live soundtrack from 1971, "Live at the Oval 1971," will be released officially for the first time!
The Who played to an audience of 35,000 people at the Oval Cricket Ground in Kennington, South London, on September 18, 1971, in a headlining performance at the Goodbye Summer rock concert for famine relief in Bangladesh. The album, "Live at the Oval 1971," will be released on August 22 in CD, 2LP, and digital formats including Atmos.
Although bootlegs have been available in the past, Live at the Oval 1971 is the first official release of the show, newly mixed from the original 8-track analog multitrack tapes. The band played five songs from their classic album "Hoos Next," released about a month before the show, and the show showed that they were one of the top live rock bands of their time. The finale of the show featured Pete Townsend (G) and Keith Moon (Ds) destroying their equipment.
The Who will begin the last North American tour of their career, titled "The Song Is Over," on August 16.
